Troll – Neo–Satanic Supremacy

Releasedate: 29-01-2010; Label: Napalm Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Norwegian Industrial Black Metal band Troll is formed in 1992. The band currently released its fourth full length album: “Neo-Satanic Supremacy”.

Troll brings Black Metal, on its blackest. Influences of the other bands that kept the band members busy during the years are clearly present. Dimmu Borgir is to recognize very easily for example. Nevertheless, the band goes towards extremes. Troll is searching for a confrontation with the scene, an attempt to be the most anti-Christ and still reaching out for something touchable that many people attract. The keys play an important role in that. Symfonical elements bring the cold screeching atmosphere to its right. It opens up the music and make it more accessible. The blast beats come forward in the music as well and the use of the keys in intro’s often reminded me to Anorexia Nervosa. The album is balanced and it is to praise that they did not let the riffing overwhelm the music or make the whole album a contest of which musician can show its supremacy most.
That the band reminds to various other acts is one of the points that disappoints somehow. Hoping for a little bit more of an own face for the next time, but keep the instrumental balance exist the way it is. Than the next album of Troll will be a big winner, now it is too much homogenization for me.
