The Drums were born in late 2008 in Florida amidst an exciting and hopeful political climate. With big dreams and a batch of songs they believed in spent the beginning of 2009 saving money to move to New York City. With their arrival in New York, The Drums added former Elkland guitarist Adam Kessler on second guitar and NYC born drummer Connor Hanwick (formerly of lo-fi teen pop duo Cape of No Hope) to the line up and set up a month long residency at a small club on the lower east side of Manhattan. Word of mouth quickly spread and by the end of June 2009, The Drums’ concerts had become a weekly dance party attended religiously by the most critical music fans in New York City.
The music on their now EP “Summertime” is fast and rocking yet very chilling and relaxing, spreading a good mood. I would consider it Indie music. The songs get you going along. “Let’s Go Surfing” has some catchy whistling in the background. You will probably find yourself whistling that melody somewhere when you least expect it. ”Make You Mine” has a repetitive sound, keeping on coming all over again to make sure it is stuck in your memory for a long time. “Submarine” is a slower song where as “Down By The Water” is a lot catchier. Since it is an EP it only contains seven songs.
Tracklist: 1. Saddest Summer 2. Let’s Go Surfing 3. Make You Mine 4. Don’t be a Jerk, Jonny 5. Submarine 6. Down by the Water 7. I Felt Stupid |
