The Murder of My Sweet is a formation from Sweden that makes Cinematic Metal. Their album “Echoes of The Aftermath” is out now.
Cinematic Metal, but more generalizing it you could get Symphonic Metal as a description. Female fronted and counting to many clichés at first sight. But then you listen the album and see that the guys offering a bit of difference. The production is kept relatively modest for the music they make, a very welcome choice. The whole is in good balance, vocals are surely there to tell the story and never get overpowered by the melodic side of the music, however this melodic part has no troubles making themselves be heard as well. It forms a catchy sound that reminds me of a combination between Nightwish and Deathlike Silence with some vocals that have a warmer feel than in these mentioned bands.
Halfway the album the band brings in the song “Echoes of the Aftermath” which breaks up the album quite well. It’s just a bit darker than the songs that were played before which is doing well for variation. After that the band continues as before but manage to surprise again in their last song, “Inside, Outside” which seems sincere and passionate, taken from the deep.
The Murder Of My Sweet surprised me. It is so easy to put them in a corner and they certainly don’t stray too far from what many did before, but they do know how to give it their own twist. “Echoes of The Aftermath” is a fine release that will appeal to many. A commercial metal sound which did not became a caricature of itself yet.
