Svanzica – Eos

Releasedate: 04-10-2009
By: Sabine van Gameren

Svanzica is an Italian band making progressive metal. They formed in 2005 and released their debut album “Eos” in October.

The album starts quite dark and moody, the first song “Whispering” and as well the second one “Anattà” meet the principle of Katatonia in deepness. Vocals are a point you have to get used to. They seemed to be not so various, until a bit further the grunts come in. There is the beginning of something better. Instrumentally the band catches me. Drums are bringing atmosphere in the music because they come more forward than you would have expected. The band shows different sides of themselves when it comes to this, there is an acoustic track included on the album, which get followed by a fast song that is in line with it. It’s called “Liria Underground” and maybe this one is most mentionable as being the top song on the album. It has a bit of everything and the band caries you with them in emotions. The seventh song “Cerimonial Lakespells” seems to have more jazz elements and slows it all down a bit.
Overall the band has made a nice album, here and there are still some improvements needed, but Svanzica can get far, the potential is there.
