Wigg is a Dutch rock formation. The band started back in 2009 and this year they are ready for the release of their debut album called “Sally”.
Originally a coverband, the guys are now presenting us their own material. At first you may be wondering if these guys step over the ‘local band sound’. The songs are recognizable, sure their heroes are kept in very close watch. Sometimes you have to look deep for what is their own identity and Wigg seem to be searching for that still. Originality is not the main point for Wigg, which does not always have to be a problem as long as it comes with great quality of skills. Here the band is doing well, they can pull of some interesting riffs, the vocals are sometimes a bit interesting. Sometimes you long for more contrast, but it has something that could be the potential of their own face.
Overall it is clear the band is not there yet. The album is pleasant, but there it stops. They took long time to make this release, which could indicate that the songs are around longer and the more recent songs would be overgrowing this. Therefore it is logical to see some growth when a next release would come. Seeing them live you could do with their sound, a drink in your hands and some feel good rock like this will do.
