WASP has a new album out and tours intensively at the moment. This night it was Effenaar in Netherlands that was to enjoy Blackie and co.

DistillatorAs a support was Distillator announced. Kind of last minute actually. At Facebook the discussion went round, people saying they have seen the band already enough times as they are often granted a support slot in that venue and seeing them being booked for many festivals already they are surely making themselves a presence.

For us it was our first encounter with the band as far as our memory goes, but maybe tonight was not the luckiest start then. Seeing their whole set makes me understand the comments online, the band has a lot of songs that are alike and when waiting for that one that jumps out more, it does not really come. Some bad luck as a broken string calms down the performance, but drummer Marco puts down a decent solo for the audience. The band’s strength is in the energetic way of playing and performing, which shows they have plenty of potential to grow and why they are a welcome guest on every stage.

WASP - EffenaarAfter several years of no new WASP releases, this year it is time for a new one “Golgotha” is to be releases in October and so the guys are ready to promote their album. But tonight the overall theme was not really that much about “Golgotha” but maybe you could say the band brings the night in honour of the dead. Several songs are themed around that, and also the visuals showing us those who have died, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse. Then there is also the intense and emotional “Miss You” that does not even need explanation.

The audience is much on Blackie’s side, scanting his name and when he replies with “Yes?!” it all got quiet which he remarked as well. He took some time to talk to the audience a bit, which make it seem he was comfortable being there tonight as for those who have seen the band many times, know that it certainly is not common they speak a lot between the songs.

The band has made a selection of their classics for their setlist. Starting with “On Your Knees” the tone was set, but “L.O.V.E. Machine” and “Crazy” are true crowdpleasers as well. Ending the night with “Wild Child”, which can’t miss in any WASP set, and “I Wanna Be Somebody” the band completes their set. Have you found much difference in their new material? No, it is typical WASP. And so come it blends in very well here tonight. Of course their single and the title track were played as well, but the majority of the people were all in with their classics.
