Swashbuckle is a pirate themed metal band. “Back To The Noose”. This is their second album, the first one under the Nuclear Blast label.
The band formed in 2005 and are coming from New Jersey, USA. The choose to sail around in the pirates world, not being the only metal band on Tempelores that does. The are in good company of Alestorm. What to expect from pirate metallers, you would wonder? A bottle of rum instead of absolute vodka? We doubt if it is that what makes Swashbuckle reached their fame. As a matter of fact they won a MySpace competition hold by Nuclear Blast, so it must be something that these bloody pirates do to make the crowd fall for them.
Thrash is what the music brings, speeded up and often in company of some vocals that flirt with death metal. The band makes the whole listening experience complete with the various story-like parts in between those thrashy songs. As a fact, I had to think of the Disney stories available on cassette, cd and probably on mp3 nowadays as well, but then transferred to a metal version of it. So is this a bad thing? No not necessarily. It adds a different theme to the often over floated with stereotype genre.
Fans from aggressive metal styles are not advised to get in the ship with Swashbuckle, they will experience unnecessary annoyance by the various interruptions in the music, but Swashbuckle makes a bridge for those who are more into folk metal to cross the overly present theme with the Thrash. Therefore, this band has a right of existence and the album might unite worlds more than we could expect in future.
