Shania Twain is a Canadian country pop singer. Her career started back in 1993, but the real success arrived in 1997 with her third album “Come on Over” that made her extremely important in the country scene, especially with the single “That Don’t Impress Me Much”. With the passing of time she received many achievements like five Grammy and 27 BMI Songwriter awards. In 2004 she also acted in the movie “I Heart Huckabees”.
“The First Time… For The Last Time” is a collection of demos. In it there are mostly love songs that don’t fall within Shania Twain’s typical style, on the contrary they’re more poppy. There is a clear old atmosphere in the album since these demos have been recorded in late 80s and early 90s. On a discography level this album is not really relevant, the songs are very different each other and it seems that they have been put together without a real care. It would have been better to hear these old songs re-arranged, re-registered and then published to have a more modern sound. Despite it, the album is not that bad, the old sound can be liked as well by those who want to remind the old times. There are mixed songs as well that make the album more energetic, but they really have nothing to do with the dated production of the rest of the songs. The album is not exactly what a Shania Twain’s fans can expect, although this it’s nice to sing and dance along with, but that’s all.
