Lacrimosa is duo from Switzerland. Tilo Wolff and Anne Nurmi have worked on new material in the past years and now released “Sehnsucht” which is their tenth studioalbum.
For thos who never heard of Lacrimosa, it is gothic music, melancholic sounds with orchestral arrangements. Not just music but more likely it can be seen as a piece of art. There is a lot to hear instrumental that brings the goosebumps up with not only its beauty but as well with its creepy atmosphere. “Sehnsucht” is not different from this description. It is a typical Lacrimosa album that people expect from them. The album has quite an emotional approach, feelings get described in compositions of drama. A slight change in what they have done before must be the guitars that come quite heavy in this release. It can be seen as a step back from the orchestral work, that is not taken out all but just moderated. Some more rock influences got back in the music, but Lacrimosa is Lacrimosa and “Sehnsucht” is a logical step in the line of releases. This time the band choose to add three songs in English, while most of their songs are in German. For the fans who don’t speak German perhaps it is a blessing, but in general the German songs are better.
Lacrimosa did a good job with making an album that fits their repertoire perfectly. After so many years and nine studio albums before this album this album is still original and yet in style of what has become the typical Lacrimosa style. “Sehnsucht” is one you won’t forget, especially not if you heard the promo version of the album because you get reminded every 30 seconds that you are listening to “Sehnsucht”.
