The German Heavy Metal formation Giant X is a side project. Behind it are Rolf Kasparek abd Peter Jay Jordan, known of the band Running Wild. They have just released an album and it is simply called: “I”.
The first introduction seems lots promising but of course the cliché lays around the corner when it comes at albums like these and yet Giant X does not bother to step away from that. Good, some nostalgia you might call it an that will do. Some of the tracks on the release are just very cheesy and almost give you the idea of dealing with some youngsters going after their heroes of the past, but that is not the case here. “The Count” is an obvious exposure of that. The guys preach about their status in the description given with the release, so therefore the expectations were a bit higher. Lyrically, composition the vocals, all points that the guys could have scored way more. As a little positive remark to make you could go to the catchiness of it. The tracks are easy to stick in mind and probably good for some feel good atmosphere. Unfortunately you have to forget about the expectations to get the most joy of it. Giant X could have gotten more out of this as it seems. Now they are just stuck at ‘sufficient’.
