03-06-2009 Blitzkid

Venue: Nachtleben, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Still exhausted from the festival I already went back to go see another show. A show of somebody I skipped on at the WGT to go see Agonize and KMFDM: Blitzkid.

Blitzkid is a horrorpunk band from Virginia founded in 1997.
We arrived shortly after doors opened and it was still quite empty. I was a little afraid it would stay like that since it was a weekday, a Wednesday to be precise. But it filled up quickly. There was supposed to be a Swedish opening act but they had cancelled, so it was going to be Blitzkid only.

The audience was mostly punks and gothic punks, most of them wearing either Misfits merchandise or Blitzkid merchandise. Two of the guests even flew in all the way from Finland just to see this show.

So as I said, Nachtleben had filled up quite a lot by the time the guys started playing. With fast riffs they took off and went through the show. The audience was not only singing and dancing along, but also moshing quite a lot. The cheering was loud and the shouts for song requests were as well. The guys talked a little to the audience in between the songs, but not too much. But this was a concert and not a chatting hour, so it was fine. The set list was very long and they played many songs from the beginning stages of the band to the latest songs which will be on the upcoming album which is planned for 2010. Lights were dimmed and the guys were made up as usually looking like dead men walking. This added a somewhat perfect creepy atmosphere to the entire show and gave the songs a final touch. I could not really imagine seeing this band in the brightest sunshine performing these songs. The main show lasted for about an hour but the audience demanded an encore, which they got. So the three Americans came back for a couple more songs. They played a Ramones cover as well. All in all it was a great night and a nice show.
