15-10-2011 Hurts

Venue: Old Ice Hall, Helsinki (Finland)

English synthpop duo Hurts released their debut album “Happiness” in September 2010, which gained a great response worldwide. Happiness Tour is taking them around the whole Europe in October and November.

Tonight’s show happened to be the biggest of the whole Happiness tour and for the occasion, Helsinki’s Old Ice Hall swarmed with people. The guys definitely know how to conquer some hearts in the audience: white roses thrown to the crowd and some kind words turn out the perfect blend to keep the audience in their pocket after few songs already. The show is not only about that though, as it finds its mark both from a musical and visual point of view: besides showing to be in perfect form, the band is helped by two dancers, appearing on stage during several songs of the setlist, and by an actual string quartet. Especially this last element spices the music itself, making it sound way more genuine. Though the set is way too short, it’s still filled with unexpected surprises, like the unreleased “Mother Nature” and “Affair”, played tonight for the very first time.
Hurts isn’t certainly “yet another pop band” and their live shows are the clear demonstration of that. It’s doubtlessly worth giving a try to it.
