Tonight we were at Batschkapp to see three amazing bands: Filter, Julien-K and Nim Vind. Doors opened a little late and the bands started a little later as well. The venue was crowded and everyone was ready to see the three bands.

First band of the night was Julien-K. Julien-K is a music group that began as a side project for electronic music created by Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck from Orgy, with the later addition of Elias Andra, and Anthony ‘Fu’ Valcic. Their debut album, Death to Analog, which was mixed by Tim Palmer, was released on March 10, 2009 in the U.S., and later on March 5, 2010 in Europe. The album was initially planned to be released on February 17, 2009, the date the United States switched from analog to digital television. Julien-K’s webpage was launched in the summer of 2003 with initial demo versions of songs “Look at You”, “Kick the Bass”, “Someday Soon”, “Everyone Knows”, and “Technical Difficulties”, the latter of which was later featured both in the film and on the soundtrack from Michael Bay’s 2007 Transformers. Up until 2007, the webpage said “Coming Soon.” Since the official webpage launch, the site has been redesigned and updated with a wealth of information, links, photos, and other media. Julien-K have also lent musical contributions to several video games, including Sonic Heroes (“This Machine”), Shadow the Hedgehog (“Waking Up”), and the official musical score for the 2009 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game. And today, they opened up for Filter here at Batschkapp. There were quite Julien-K fans according to the merchandise they wore. Julien-K rocked big time from the very first second on. The audience loved them right away. The catchy tunes got the people to move along. Julien-K played mostly new songs but also some old songs like “Kick The Bass”. The band owned the stage and the audience for the thirty minutes performance. The cheering after each song was immense and the band thanked them a whole lot for that. Simply amazing band, music and performance which was way too short. And I am sure everyone in the venue agrees with me on this one. The new Julien-K album will be out in fall, maybe we will get to see them a little bit longer then.

Now it was time for Nim Vind from Canada. Nim Vind is music for Outsiders and all those who want more. The ones who resist the sticky fiber of the assimilating web. The ones who read the words in between the lines. Nim Vind makes music that affects the Heart and Soul. Messages in the music are sent in capsules of emotion and psychological effect. He has performed his charms on many foreign soils. His albums are audio textbooks used in the study of your troubled Motor Cortex. The trio rocked the stage during their thirty minutes set through which they were speeding. They talked a bit to the audience in between the songs. Nim Vind played songs off both albums. The audience liked it and cheered after each song and clapped along to the songs. It was a great set of thirty minutes.
Now it was time for the headliner: Filter. Filter is a rock group formed in 1993 in Cleveland by singer Richard Patrick and guitarist/programmer Brian Liesegang. Filter has released five studio albums, the most recent being “The Trouble with Angels”, which was released on August 17, 2010. The venue was packed by now. People were stoked as Filter entered the stage. They rocked on stage for almost two hours. Playing all their hits off all albums. The people sang and danced along, clapped to the beats and had a good time. The band moved around on stage and rocked the house big time. People were loving the band’s performance big time and cheered out loud after each song. You could tell Filter were doing this for quite a while already. It was a wonderful and long evening. Everyone had a blast. Too bad all three bands are not touring here more often.
