Burzum is a Norwegian Black Metal by Varg Vikernes project formed in 1991. His album “Fallen” is out now. It is the eight full length release of Burzum.
The album “Fallen” comes about a year after the release of “Belus”. Burzum has a history, the fact that Varg spend 16 years in jail for a murder and church burnings is something that some fans embrace. Although “Fallen” surely reflects back to the music made in the past, it must be seen more as overall summarize of the different sorts of music that have been released. A bit of the ambient, a bit of the paganism and a big part of “Belus”. “Fallen” is a logical next step in line. Also there is something new introduced. There is a different use of the vocals which mainly results in a softer use of the voice. This comes with the fact that these vocals have been placed quite prominent upfront in the sound.
This album might break the fan base into parts as if that hasn’t been done already. Some will keep holding on to the past records, but there might also be some new embracers. Those who enjoy pagan influences in their metal will have a chance to discover something new in this release.
