15-08-2008 Sister Dew

Supports: Cherry Lips; Venue: Dreikönigskeller, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

It’s Friday night in August and I am not at a festival for several reasons. But at least I am at a concert.

Dreikönigskeller in Frankfurt is a really tiny bar in a cellar with a tiny stage, dimmed lights and an Elvis altar. I had been there once before for an acoustic set of Betty Ford, tonight I was there for Sister Dew, a German rock band. I would say a female rock band, but the drummer is male…

As support they had the Cherry Lips along, an Italian band from Verona, an all female glam rock band.

The Dreikönigskeller was already crowded as about 20 people were there, so you can imagine how tiny it was. Luckily it was not that hot down there. But it was quite dark and cosy.

Only a few people were there but it seemed quite crowded as the Cherry Lips got on stage ready to rock. They sang in English and rocked very well, enjoyed what they were doing and so did the audience. Although it was not much cheering and singing along the people were still standing close to the stage and were watching instead of sitting at the bar and chatting. The girls played for a little over 30 minutes.

Up next was Sister Dew. After I had reviewed their album I was of course excited to see how they’d do live and they didn’t disappoint me. The show was great, familiar and fun. They rocked, talked with the audience, danced and had fun. The small audience even cheered quite a lot for that venue. They played many songs off their album and the time just ran by. Everybody was quite surprised as the last song got announced. The girls, and the drummer, did a great job on stage. The singer’s voice reminded me of Sandra Nasic (ex-Guano apes) at times…

It was a great evening and I hope to see them again in a bigger venue.
