18-02-2011 A Day To Remember

Supports: Adept,Pierce The Veil, Bayside; Venue: Essigfabrik, Cologne (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Tonight we were at Essigfabrik in Cologne again. Sold out house with everyone anxiously waiting for the bands to start!

Early than actually stated on the homepage of the venue the first band began rocking the crowd: Adept! Adept is a Swedish post-hardcore band from Vagnhärad Trosa, Sweden, formed in 2004. They kicked ass from the very first till the very last second of their performance. Thriving and energetic Adept got the audience going along big time. Several people could even sing along and knew the band, quite some were there for Adept only, as well. Adept played old and new songs. The singer growled, shouted and sang his mind out and jumped around all over the stage, never standing still. Adept put up an amazing 30 minutes set. An awesome opener that could also be headlining the way they set the audience on fire and heated up the room.
But the night was not over yet. There were three more bands to come, and one of them was Pierce The Veil. Pierce the Veil is an American rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2006, the group was founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbandment of the group Early Times which was formed out of the San Diego punk rock scene. Pierce The Veil were very melodic compared to the metal sound of Adept. Bass and guitar player jumped around all the time, so did the singer. They motivated the audience to sing and dance along. Some fans held up banners they drew for the band. The entire audience seemed to know the band well, they were able to sing along to most songs of Pierce The Veil. A very thriving and energetic show Pierce The Veil performed for us tonight.
The temperature in the Essigfabrik was rising and moving around in the venue was getting close to impossible. Time for Bayside to rock the masses! Bayside is an American rock band from Queens which formed in the winter of 2000. The band has released four full length albums since signing to Victory Records. Bayside consists of Anthony Raneri as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Jack O’Shea as the lead guitarist, Nick Ghanbarian as the bassist, and Chris Guglielmo as the drummer. A punk rock band on stage with catchy songs that got everyone to rock along. The music was sometimes on the edge to rockabilly or country music but the punk core remained, and that made it special. Bayside did not jump around as much as the previous artists did but their music let your muscles twitch. An awesome band that definitely left a long lasting impression on some. A wonderful performance, I am shocked that I have never heard of them before. But better late than never, right?
Anyway, most people were not here to see Bayside or watch Pierce The Veil jump around on stage nor to listen to Adept growling, at least not only. They were mainly there to see A Day To Remember. A Day to Remember is an American rock band from Ocala, Florida. Founded in 2003 by guitarist, Tom Denny, and drummer, Bobby Scruggs, the band has released four studio albums, nine singles and eight music videos. They are mainly known for their unusual amalgamation of metalcore and pop punk as a musical style. The show started out with confetti being shot into the audience. Already then the audience went insane! Moving was impossible because it was so packed but with A Day To Remember on stage it turned into a mass movement with everyone moving! You had no chance to stand still at all. Your only choice to get out without bruises was to move along, but no one even considered standing still. Energetic and thriving music by an amazing live band, everyone knew the words and rocked along with A Day To Remember. Some time throughout the show there was toilet paper thrown into the audience. The band played old and new songs, the audience knew them all by heart! A Day To Remember also played a cover by Millencolin. What an amazing night full of sweat and heat. Definitely a day to remember!
