Zu – Axion

Releasedate: 22-02-2011; Label: Public Guilt
By: Sabine van Gameren

Zu is an Italian trio. They are in their original line up since they started in 1997, although just a few days ago the band annouced that there will be a lineup change for the drums. Their music is quite experimental and through the years they have released quite some material, coming with “Axion” in 2011.

“Axion” is a vinyl release giving you two remixes of the band’s latest album. The first one is “Axion” remixed by Phantomsmasher. At first you might think you get transferred to some horror movie having the creepy screeching as a basics, but it opens and gets more friendly soon. When the speed goes up in the song the tension follows quietly and the second half of this track is more calm, as the storm has driven over and life gets back to normal.
The second track on this release is Chthonian and is remixed by James Plotkin. It is a more various track that comes with some more surprises, less of a storyline. It tend to be quite chaotic, without an order and meant to confuse you, leaving you with question marks on what will be coming up as soon as one part finishes and the next part stands there. It’s intruding your thoughts and considering the fact that the band claims to have done over 1000 live performances they must have surprised many people all over the world already with their material. Are you up for an experiment? Do you have an open mind? Zu is your next favorite band.
