Intro
Dust Mountain is a Finnish psychedelic folk rock band, which was founded in 2016. Their new album “Hymns For Wilderness” is out now via Svart Records.
I personally discovered Dust Mountain earlier this year during the online stream of Roadburn Redux and well… it was love at first sight! So upon hearing the news of a brand new record, I knew I had to listen to it.
Review
“Hymns for Wilderness” is pure magic and psychedelia! There is a huge connection to the nature and spirituality in the overall atmosphere, which you will feel mainly through the instruments and also the vocals. The album is slow in general but flows easily, so just take it easy and enjoy the little beauties in each song. In my personal opinion, the energy of the night and the moon is dominant throughout the album; there is this mysticism and even the hidden darkness which lures you in right away. This makes “Hymns for Wilderness” mysterious and beautiful.
Sound-wise, the album delivers elements from dark folk and psychedelic rock in a unique and exotic way. There is a sincerity and warmth to “Hymns for Wilderness” which defines its character and makes Dust Mountain stand out in this genre. I personally fell in love with the melodies so much that I didn’t pay attention to the lyrics yet but the more I listen to the album, the album I get curious about the lyrics… I am sure everyone will have a different experience in this sense.
“Hymns for Wilderness” is otherworldly and magical with a touch of darkness! Definitely recommended for the lovers of this genre but also for the spiritual ones. So light your candles and enjoy this one!
