The German formation The Very End makes Melodic Death Metal. They have been around since 2004 and are now up for their second release “Mercy & Misery”.
First thing that jumped in mind, is that these guys must fan of Soilwork as their sound has similarities with them. Though, within their album “Mercy & Misery” they have some variations of it. Acoustic elements is there to find as well, close to the vehemence of the very first songs. In general they seem to have a sort of love/hate relationship with commerce. Picking some influences here and there, mixing it to their own songs and actually they did it quite well. Catchiness is all over them, a good way to attract a wide audience. Occassionally they remind you to Pantera, but it does not get overwhelming. At the end of the album they seem to calm down a bit, the rage is cooled off a little and as a bonus track the band recorded a cover of “Maniac” (yes, Michael Sembello). Although it is not really a track you necessarily needed to hear in a metal edition, it turned out to be ok. Will do even better in a live sets and closes this album with a smile.
A release that is worth checking out for people who don’t feel stuck into boxes and don’t take everything as serious, because this album is one that brings a party mood.
