Thorium has been founded a couple years ago and in 2018 they had their first album out. Anno 2021 the band returns with a brand new album. It is called “Empires in the Sun” and it is available now.
Heavy Metal fans may have found their way to Thorium already when the band had their first one out, but if you did not, then “Empires in the Sun” is a good one to get to know them from. The band shows a variety of influences if you look at their website. And they embraced a lot of it in their tracklist which is therefore quite diverse.
The album starts off quite energetic once you get past the intro and gives you the idea that the band have given their sound a good thought. A bit of their influenced and a bit of their own, in decent balance. You may hear some Judas Priest here and there.
“Exquisite” is a track that serves as a good starter, maybe the intro was not so needed at all. And while the band is having most songs in good line with that they break their flow a bit with the last three tracks, which are in serie. Interesting to see how these are connected, perhaps we can expect a trilogy of releases of these guys in future.
Decent riffing, catchy vocals and all that is needed to get you along. Thorium has a good mix if skills on board. Here and there it feels a bit like they could stray a bit further from what we would expect, surprise us a bit more yet, but concluding all we could say this release is certainly worth to invest in if you like Heavy Metal anno 2021.
