Einherjer is a Viking metal band from Haugesund, Norway, founded in 1993. Musically they range from folk towards black metal, making each album as a bit of a surprise. It is about 2,5 years ago since their last, but the band now returns with a new album called “North Star”. It will be released 26th of February.
“North Star” is the band’s eighth studio album. The last one is still played often in Tempelores headquarters so we were certainly looking forward to this one as soon as it was announced. When expectations are high, you really don’t want to be disappointed and luckily this album is not doing that.
Already at the second track of the release you realize they went on where the previous one stopped and made even thicker, a heavy sound combined that bass makes it a star. Raspy vocals are leading you in and in “Stars” you hear some intriguing riffing along with it all.
Another track that scores high is “Ascension”. Its tempo and progressing viciousness is fascinating to listen to. With “Higher Fire” you may slightly feel a more heavy metal influence luring in, but Einherjer does not stray far from their own sound so you need to listen carefully to hear that into it.
Concluding the album is the steady “Chasing The Serpent”. The band use the drums in the start of the song to set it as heavy as it is, but it has a melodic touch to it as well, a track that maybe is a bit different from the others but suits quite well in the tracklist. Guitarsolo’s are spicing it up a bit.
Altogether the band has created a fine album, a logical follow up from “Norrøne spor”. If you enjoyed that one, than “North Star” is a must buy for you.
