Ages – Uncrown

Label: Black Lodge Records
Releasedate: 21-08-2020

Ages is a Swedish band that was formed in 2011. They make melodic black metal and have released their debut full-length album in 2015. Anno 2020 the band returns with a brand new release. It is called “Uncrown” and it is available now.

In the swarm of promos that reach our office nowadays I found this release. It spoke to me for the description, a gut feeling it would be something I appreciate. I’m glad to say that they did not let me down. The melodic part is done quite nicely in balance with the more vehement part. The sound never feels too soft or out of balance. Guitars are clear, inspiring and leading the sound. The solos being played are certainly worth giving some extra attention.
Opener of the album “Burn Them” is a bit more like a stereotypical sound, but soon you see these guys putting their own identity to it. Listen to a track like “Dominionism” to hear all of that come to a highlight. The power that is in there is summarizing the album nicely.

“Uncrown”is a release that puts a smile on my face. Ages have taken their time while making this release, putting some attention towards details which resulted in a good album, that stands out amongst the many. It is sad that we live in the times we live right now, because I could have seen these guys touring with one of the bigger names successfully.
