Cristian Mustaine is the father of the Horror Metal band Blood Thirsty Demons. The project started in 1997 and since that year the band created quite a list of releases. Now the band is signed with My Kingdom Music and this was the opportunity for Cristian to re-record his 2005 album “Let The War Begin” for a reissue this year.
Interesting, horror metal can bring different expectations. A link to the horrorpunk? A death metal version of Lordi? Or even something else. Well, Blood Thirsty Demons comes with a familiar sound. Yes that horrorpunk reference is there. Mix that with a little Black and there you come closer to what this about. But forget about the Lordi idea. It’s not. Totally re-recorded well that would give opportunity to clean out imperfections you would say. Though it is a matter of taste, but I hear some clean vocals in this album that make me wonder. Maybe not the best ones around. It made me shiver, so at least it does have a horror impact.
Most of the songs have an old-fashioned ideology behind them. Older than 1995. Black Sabbath obviously, but that is an easy reference as there is an ode to this band added on this release. The album has its charm, but you have to listen it a couple of times to find it. And not take it too serious, this ain’t music that is made to showcase the great musicianship, but clearly more out of humor.
