Label: Tritonus Records
Releasedate: 24th of April 2020
The mastodons of Swedish rock scene Mustasch came back with “Killing It For Life”. The album was released via band’s own label, Tritonus Records and this is the tenth record over two decades of the rock formation’s existence.
If I say there is nothing new, it is not true exactly. It’s hard to make different noises based on seven notes and stick to the rules of genre but we mustn’t underestimate the power of attempting. At least the band stands alone with recognizable sound including firm riffs and expressive vocals.
This time the band not only entertained and provoked but paid attention to serious problems like mental illness and youth suicides. “What is wrong”, no doubt, is the key track of the album and key message for the social campaign.
Back to ordinal tracks. The idea of fighting the self-abuse is main line in track “Blood in blood out” which compares with car engine and metal fuel in it. Confession and dreams about another life before a grave are also a theme (guess the title of track). The last mentioned track, “Ransacker”, is the great part of touring much (live-streaming for now). Maybe you can listen to a catch of Judas Priest.
Pity, the album seems unfinished for me: many different songs and touch of emptiness after all. Does it make you care? It is only your choice. So listen to your heart and trust music.
Line up:
- Ralf Gyllenhammar – vocals, guitar
- David Johannesson – lead guitar
- Stam Johansson – bass
- Robban Bäck – drums
