Releasedate: 2019
Orthanc is a Belgian formation reaching some name and fame in the 90’s but it turned quiet around this band for quite some time. About 20 years later the guys decided to return under this name and release a new album. It is called “Carnival” and is available now.
The band presents an interesting mix of influences. There is Heavy metal, but also some Groovy, Thrash side. Then it feels a bit Hardcore and Nu metal looks around as well. A wild mix so to say. But, for a band that leans a bit on the name they have from the past, they went far and beyond to give the listener a modern and relevant sound. The catchy “Dark Religion” is a good example of a song that demands your attention and will stick in mind. Also, title track “Carnival” will be one that people remember. Ending the album with “The Prophet” is an interesting move. It is really one of those songs that summarizes the album well, it has a message and it will give you food for thought.
If you know the band from back then, you will be happy to see them back, but also new listeners will be glad to have given this one a try, a discovery that one may cherish for long time.
