Belgian formation Beyond The Labyrinth makes Melodic Rock band that founded in 1996. With four full length albums released the band now comes with the EP “Brand New Start”.

That title is to be taken quite literally, only recently the band announced that a new singer would join them and it was a point where the band decided they need to make some musical changes also.
Returned to a more classic Rock sound and a more raw production on their music was one of the few things they were seeking. While the band is working on their full length album we are getting an introduction of what we can expect. They recorded one new track and three older ones with their new style. Looking what at what we got, you can say that the band is not giving you anything innovative but that is not always the need when it comes to a genre like this. The new song “Brand New Start” is perhaps the most remarkable one. The band showcases some good ideas for the songs but somehow it seems to lack a bit of power in how it is recorded. We don’t need the shine and polish, but a bit more spotlight for the vocals would make the whole come out a bit better. It seems a deliberate choice as they state “if you want it louder, turn it up instead of compresssing and limiting to the max”. We are therefore not referring to volume so much.

It’s a testrun, this EP. It seems that it really depends on ones personal taste if you like their approach to the production of it. It certainly become something that steals the moment away from the actual songwriting. Maybe the best conclusion is that this band is one you need to experience live.
