When a Norwegian (Jo Berger Myhre) and an Icelandic (Olafur Björn Olafson) musician are coming together we can expect something like “Lanzarote” to come out of it.
Was
it a trip that inspires the two? Probably. The island is vulcanic,
something that is not too strange for an Icelandic, but musically
there seem to be much to find for the two. The release starts quite
calm and serene. Piano tunes are letting you slowly get into it.
Interesting, although we have never been there ourselves, it surely
has a bit of a reputation as a party island. Seems like there is
another side to the place as well.
The album does have a track
that is called “Both Worlds”, maybe it is a reference to that? We
don’t think the music hints much to that though.
The album remains quite calm. It never really takes up a lot of power, just remains a bit dark and mysterious throughout. It’s like they are waiting for some doom that has not yet arrived when we come to the end of it.
Does that mean there will be a follow up to this release? The story does not sound complete just yet. Perhaps Jo Berger Myhre and Olafur Björn Olafson are working on more of where this comes from? Time will tell.
