Asphyx – Live Death Doom

The Dutch Death Doom band Asphyx has recently released a live album and their first official live registration since their twenty-three years of existence. The band has been away but has been back since 2007 and their previous CD “Death….The Brutal Way!”

This release comes in a combination of a live album and a DVD, both can be purchased on their own or as a package. The “ Live Death Doom” CD contains the footage captured at the Turock venue in Essen, Germany on July 4th, 2009. This is filmed during the sold-out release-show for the “Death…The Brutal Way” album. The DVD is split in three parts. Live, Death and Doom. The “Live” part is a registration of their gig in Essen in Germany. The “Death” part is a documentary about the band with collaboration from various former band members. The “Doom” part exist of various extras and bootlegs.

When putting on the CD you immediately notice that this is recorded at their gig. The quality is not perfect, but gives you a perfect registration of how an Asphyx gig would be. The sound is not mixed and is more pure and raw, including the comments from the band towards the public. Lucky they catched a lot of energy from that gig on CD. Asphyx brings you the best from their previous records in a raw and unpolished way, which works well with this band. Raw guitar solo’s and the pounding drums. Really a nice package for Asphys fans and those who like to know more about the band. If you are really new to this band, just keep in mind that is live footage and not mixed and polished. This is the way you would get it standing in a sold out venue somewhere in the back. Sweating bodies everywhere, cheering and applauding. The band on stage giving their best.
