Wolfshade is a Black Metal band coming from France. The band has been formed in 2005 and got the releases coming since. “When Above” is their third release.
The band have got themselves quite a release. Thick and atmospheric, it’s well up to them to make an album which has a good body. Here and there some typical ambient elements, implementation of keys brings sets it straight from the beginning, “When Above” has a good flow. The project started as a one man project, but grows out to a bigger project and more musicians get involved. The fact that French is the language of their lyrics may mystify the whole concept quite a bit, but for those who speak French it is an extra. The band has the drums as quite a basic element of their songs and seem to have built it all around it, as the drums remain quite dominant all over the album. The melodic side is kept in good order and does not overwhelm too much, leaving its atmosphere in many different shapes. Vocal wise, this album is not a masterpiece, being the weakest part of the sound, but overall the rest of the band picks it up quite well.
A decent album, the French’ have putten themselves on the table and present it well. This album is not one for the yearlists, but not one to forget either.
