King Giant is an American band, making typical southern metal. Their release is called: “Southern Darkness”.
Those who are fan of the genre, might be pleased. King Giant refers to that lifestyle with motorcycles, rock n roll, liquor, you name it all. But what is often with the genre if you are not into it, you put your attention on every little detail that does not meet the ideal image. This setting apart it is hard to get over the fact that the songs are too similar, all built from the same template as it seems. Due to the riffs being not interesting at all, the raw vocals that dragging forward with not enough passion to convince those criticals and not the most creative drums as a backing the whole mix does not come out very strong.
As a positive point to mention, there is the doom atmosphere all over the record which makes their story very believable. This just doesn’t weight up to the fact that this record has been made before. And while the band rides forth on it, the album is only halfway when the thought “next” comes to mind. If only they had been a bit more creative with their sound it would have been a different story.
