Eels (often typeset as eels or EELS) is an American rock band formed by singer/songwriter Mark Oliver Everett, better known as E. Other members rotate frequently, both in the studio and on stage. Eels appear on several film soundtracks, including American Beauty, Holes, The Anniversary Party, Road Trip, Knocked Up, Yes Man, The End of Violence, Hellboy II, Hot Fuzz, and the first three Shrek movies. Their ninth album “Tomorrow Morning” is out now.
The first songs on the album are electro pop and are perfect for clubs. But then it changes: The music turn into indie rock, old school indie rock. Slow and relaxing tunes with very deep lyrics sung by an awesome singer that knows how to transfer his emotions to you through a CD and speakers or headphones. Some songs remind slightly of Johnny Cash. The music is floating along taking you away from time and space, pressing pause on the thoughts racing through your mind and make you focus on the music, and the music only. EELS know how to do all that. It is almost like magic. “The Man” includes Christmas bells whereas “Looking Up” has a typical 50s sound including gospel clapping and piano playing. Somehow the farther you get to the end of the album, the more you travel back in time with the last song bringing you back to today’s world with it’s great bass and awesome sound. An awesome album that you should definitely check out.
