Fir Bolg – Paganism

Releasedate: 13-08-2010; Label: Schwardorn Production
By: Sabine van Gameren

Fir Bolg is a project Dagoth. After releasing “Paganism” in 2008 in very limited amount it took a bit before he got hooked up by Schwardorn Production but now this one is re-released and available in Europe.

The origin of Fir Bolg is French. Pagan Black Metal is what he makes and “Paganism” comes with some pretty artwork. This EP is maybe far from original, but keeping in mind that this was just a first release some critical look at it might be worth. Quite some aggression can be found in this release but you can hear that a lot of the instruments have been done by Dagoth. Sometimes a bit too basic. This is the trap that many fell into. Perhaps concentration on one thing might raise the whole to a higher level.
It is to say that Dagoth had found some musicians to join him in live situations, which made hope for this not completely surrealistic. Yet, for now this release did not exactly make a big impression. It is too much of the same and all heard before. If it was done with a perfect production suiting the music, giving a better results in the instruments and vocals it would have been acceptable, but this one is not a winner.
