The Crash Test Dummies are a Canadian folk rock/alternative rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba, widely known for their 1993 single “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”. The band is most identifiable through Brad Roberts (vocals, guitar) and his distinctive bass-baritone voice. During its heyday, the band consisted of Roberts, Ellen Reid (co-vocals, keyboards), Brad’s brother Dan Roberts (bass guitar), Benjamin Darvill (harmonica, mandolin), and Mitch Dorge (drums, percussion). Today, only Brad Roberts and Ellen Reid have appeared on every album, while Dan Roberts still occasionally tours with the band. Mitch Dorge has been busy working with Tuesday’s Girl and Charlie Redstar, along with his own projects, since 2002, but is rumored to reunite with the band in the fall of 2010 for a show in Winnipeg. But wether or not this show will happen, they have now a new album released.
The new Crash Test Dummies album still has the sound that we know from their hit back in ’93. The album is slow and chilled, easy going and without any hurry. On a few tracks you can hear a female singer supporting. “Not Today Baby” has a very old school sound. Brad’s voice is deep and spreads comfort. When hearing this voice you feel sheltered and home in a way. Listening to Crash Test Dummies makes you feel good. Positive energy is floating through the air, lifting up all worries that you might have at the moment. Enjoy the new album.
