01-06-2010 Bombay Bicycle Club

Supports: Kensington; Venue:Tivoli Oudegracht, Utrecht (The Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Two bands playing in Tivoli tonight. Bombay Bicycle Club was headlining and local band Kensington was their support.

The band from Utrecht (Netherlands) starts this evening with an intense set. Songs that are calm, switched by up tempo songs and some songs of their upcoming release were played as well. The band did not seem to be unknown by the audience and some of them clearly came to the venue just for them. The band has been around since 2007 and for today they have arranged that the audience of this concert could get a free download track of them. The indie rockers have quite some of their intensity coming from the guitars that are well mixed with vocals of vocalists Casper and Eloi. One a bit more brighter than the other, so there is a certain dept in the vocals. The band played a good set and entertained the audience perfectly. This is a support you definitely don’t mind to see while waiting for the band you come for, but they would also be able to set great headliner shows where they have more space on the stage.

Bombay Bicycle Club are more distant from their audience than their support has been. The band does not speak often with their audience and decided to let the music do the trick for them. The guys from London started their set also a bit more calm, having a great way to built tension with their songs that slowly climb to climaxes. When the band plays their most known songs like for example “Always Like This” the audience cheers big time for them. It is interesting to see how these youngsters are able to keep the attention of people to their music mainly, without saying much more than what would be the next song, the band let the music do its work. When the band gets halfway their set they get people mostly and the atmosphere seems to beat its highest. Towards the end some people were leaving because of next days early work, but Bombay Bicycle Club left a good impression.
