Ukraine formation Jinjer has their name rising. Touring extensively with the release of their EP “Micro” this summer they now have album “Macro” ready and a long list of club shows ahead of them.

The band has crossed our path a couple of times this summer and charmed us with their energetic performances. Also “Micro” was well received. “Macro” is a logical follow-up on that. Not only the actual release is on a larger scale, but the songs have grown. You can hear the band spends a lot of time together as they find a good balance between bass and guitar as support of their frontwoman who attracts so much spotlight in live shows. For example the song “The Prophecy” stands out with that principle in the back of your mind.

Also a track like “Pausing Death” draws our attention. The band shows some technical skills there that are becoming more and more the reason why Jinjer is growing so much.

What is also a great thing about listening to “Macro” is the bands  diversity. From Reggae towards Meshuggah… all these influences are bringing different parts of Jinjer together. If I must find one thing to say the band could improve on it is maybe… and note I say… MAYBE that it could be with more flowing transitions. More because I would wonder how they would do that, rather than it being an absolute must because the discomfort they bring in the changes is also giving it charm. Mixed feelings perhaps, but curiosity speaks out here.

“Macro” is an album of a band that works hard and deserves all the attention they now receive. It shows that the band knows each other well, the balance is right. If you won’t get it now, it must be on your Christmaswishlist!
