Absolutum is a black metal band, formed in 2016 by some of the band members of Fäulnis, Valborg and Total Negation. The band’s style is a hommage to the 90s, and the worship of the 2nd wave of black metal. The concepts of the songs evolve around hatred, anger and darkness. After the first release “I” in 2018, this formation is back with “II”.
“II” offers us 30 minutes of negativity and darkness. As a matter of fact, if I could describe this EP with one word, it would be “intense”… There is something ‘draining’ and dark in the overall atmosphere, reflected through the vocals in particular accompanied with the fast and energetic drumming as well as the riffs, never losing the pace in general. One can feel the passion within the music and in each element, so kudos to the guys for making the listeners feel this in their bones! It is also worth mentioning that the record is pretty straightforward and direct; there is no atmosphere or slowing down but a cold slap-into-your face attitude!
One clear highlight “II” shows is the clear vision and message the band delivers. Since we are talking about a band whose members are in different projects/bands themselves, I got the feeling that everyone brought their own vision/influence to create some sort of ideas or concepts for Absolutum, so overall the band feels a whole with many influences and a clear vision.
“II” might be the most intense release I listened to this year. Definitely recommended for the lovers of this style and for the darkness. Get it!
