Mike Tramp is a man that the majority of the people got to know as the vocalist of the band White Lion. However for quite some years he is doing solo releases and “Stray From The Flock” is one that came out this year. It is solo album number eleven.
Right from the beginning you fall into a feel good listening album. It is a release that is easy to listen to. Mike’s strenght is not just his vocals which carry a warm and embracing sound. But also the songwriting which gives the right balance between the guitars and the lyrics to leverage eachother. And those lyrics will do the trick for many. Mike is giving you insight in his heart, what he feels he brings to you.
“No Closure” for example is one of those tracks that come in. It is straightforward and gives you the feeling that you just want to get up and give the guy a hug. Maybe the song has something recognizable, it is not that unique but the way it is brought makes it stand out. Was it performed by someone else, it would not necessarily has this effect.
Here and there you might get a bit of Bruce Springsteen vibe from this release. “Live It Out” for example, but also “You Ain’t Free Anymore” gives that. The album has a range of songs that show diversity but are never too far from eachother, a good line it and with the quality that you can expect from Mike Tramp you can be guaranteed that this one will be on good rotation this year.
