The French band Rajna, existing out of Jeanne and Fabrice Lavebvre, is up their ninth release already. It carries the name “Offering”.
The music of this band is quite influenced by world music. To me, they reminded me mainly in the vocals to the band Midnattsol. There is a typical Eastern atmosphere in the music and the use of instruments out of those countries is something that makes the music interesting to listen too. Some droning sounds get produced while the vocals of Jeanne are flowing over it and make it light up, to step away from the dark side that this might cause. It somehow gets a bit dreamy if you consider that most of the instruments seem to be acoustic. Here and there, there is an electric touch, but in majority it are the acoustics that set the tone. With the influences you might dream yourself on a lonely trip, just you and your luggage exploring different worlds and different cultures.
Rajna might not bring the most stereotypical music, but something like this might be a welcome change. If you are into these dreamy voices, folk music and the use of uncommon instruments this album is right there for you!
