01-04-2010 Breitenbach

Supports: Yen; Venue: Ponyhof, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

After an energetic alternative metal evening I was now back in Frankfurt for a slower and more relaxing show. Yen and Breitenbach, two German bands from nearby, played at Ponyhof. A little tiny club in the middle of the bar square of Frankfurt called Sachsenhausen.
Yen is a female fronted band from Germany. The band, whose members live in different places scattered between Stuttgart and Frankfurt in Germany, sings in English and knows how to rock with pure passion. They say the eyes are the mirror of the human soul. That is why Yen’s lyrics are genuine, painfully honest and deeply melancholic and attest to a lot of strength despite all their frailty. Breitenbach is an alternative rock band from Frankfurt.

As Yen began playing the little club was packed. There was a low limit to the volume because of the neighbors, but Yen didn’t care. They played as if there was no limit. The songs were catchy and Yen’s voice was strong. There was not much room to move around on stage, so the band didn’t. But instead the audience danced and moved to the music. Most people could even sing along to all songs. You could feel the strong bond the band had. They played one song in acoustic with an acoustic guitar and vocals only. Throughout some songs the singer also played guitar. Yen’s voice went deep and the music made the feeling last. A gorgeous 60 minutes of performance.

Next was Breitenbach. Due to the circumstance (the limited volume) they decided to do an acoustic set. The audience was curious for what’s to come, some even sat down in front of the stage to enjoy the acoustic atmosphere even more. The trio played their set of songs without any trouble, even though they kept on mentioning that this situation happened so spontaneously they could not practice any of the songs being played like that. The singer’s voice was great and the music was great as well. Great rock songs played in an emotional acoustic situation. You could only imagine how great and rocking it must be when hearing it with volume and non-acoustic. The songs were very catchy. The guys talked a lot with the audience and everybody had a good time. It was a wonderful show and I am now curious to see a “real” show by them.
