After playing in several known bands, Melissa Auf Der Maur decided to release a solo album. The success of that album was great and currently her second album “Out Of Our Minds”.
Those who remember the warm songs that drive you into the vibe of all what Melissa radiates, might feel a bit mistreated when hearing this second music baby of hers. It’s all a bit darker and in general the tone of it all comes quite moody. Very recognizable, still, are the vocals that contains long notes dragging you into the smutchiness and a bit raw attitude, but yet with an instrumental cleanliness and precision. A perfectionistic rebelchild gone deep into her thoughts finding a way to bring these feelings to light. Instrumental passages like for example in the fourth song “Lead Horse” remembers of who have to deal with.
A dark duet with Glenn Danzig is maybe not the most expectable move to make, but let yourself get surprised with the excellent match of these vocals in such a sensitive song.
In combination with the songs from the previous album, this release sets tone for impressive and varied livesets. It’s darker and less bombastic, but seeing another side of Melissa which never lost its connection to the comfortable feeling of the confidential sound. An album that is recommended to be in your collection.
