Dukes of Windsor is an Australian Electro/Rock group most noted for their single It’s A War, released in Australia in 2008 and in Europe in early 2010, as well as their song The Others, famously remixed by Australian dance act TV Rock. Dukes of Windsor are a five-piece alternative/indie band. Although formed in Melbourne, Australia, they are currently based in Berlin, Germany. The Dukes’ career began with the release of the EP Foxhunt in 2005. Debut album The Others followed in 2006, produced in Melbourne by expatriate American Jonathan Burnside (Faith No More, Nirvana). Extra production, mixing and mastering were provided by hardcore producers Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Lovstrom (Refused – The Shape Of Punk To Come, Poison the Well, Hell is for Heroes) from Tonteknik Studios in Umea, Sweden. After the release of the album, the band embarked on an intensive schedule of touring around Australia. After extensive national radio play, they were showcased as a ‘Next Crop Artist’ by national broadcaster Triple j in November 2006. “It’s A War” is their third album now.
This album is new. It is different and odd. But I am glad to have found it. The sound is groovy and catchy. With 70s elements, synth and catchy bass lines Dukes Of Windsor rock through the album. “It’s a War” has a catchy chorus to which you can easily sing along. “The Others” is a very odd and spacey song, sounding even stranger than the rest of the album. This album is a very strange but definitely awesome album, the catchy tunes get you boogie along. It has got that special groove that we know from awesome bands like Mando Diao, The Hives and such. The booklet does not include the lyrics, but it is nicely folded and includes a nice band picture. Dukes Of Windsor, a one of a kind band with an extremely odd and unique sound, leaving you breathless and speechless, yet gets you hooked in no time. Enjoy “It’s A War”.
