LoneLady, AKA Julie Campbell is a self-styled writer, vocalist and tight guitarist. With little more than thorny determination and a shoestring budget, she built a secluded ramshackle studio in the belly of one of Manchester’s crumbling mills and created ‘Nerve Up’ in the span of four weeks. This is her second release after “Immaterial”.
The album is very funky and reminds a little bit of Alanis Morissette and slightly of Björk. The music is somewhere between blues and jazz. Odd and unique yet captivating your mind LoneLady is keeping your attention throughout all nine songs. She places her voice so that it fits very well to the songs. The lyrics are taken out of life, so everybody can relate to it somehow. “Nerve Up” contains music that you probably won’t hear in the charts. Unfortunately, because this album is not as shallow as most of the mainstream music at the moment but it actually has a message. Independent music, without any commercial support or promotion, as pure as one can get. LoneLady with “Nerve Up”: for everyone that likes independent music, away from all the trends and mainstream itself, away from greedy people and such. Enjoy this underground music by LoneLady.
