Burning Black a power metal band from America established back in 2004 by guitarist John Morris and vocalist Dan Ainlay. According to them not only play power metal but also live and love this type of metal. With this new album “MehanicHell” the band shows that the wheel was already invented but they mix the sound of power metal with 80’s heavy metal. When listening to this album old band instantly come to mind. The style of the riffs and melodies remind you of Judast Priest or Iron Maiden while the vocalist tries to copy Malice and 3 Inches of Blood.
On their album influences from other bands can be heard in the fast up-tempo songs such as “Hero Of The Century” or “Our Sentence”. These sound like a mixture of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Hammerfall. The band repeats the old and bring nothing new to our ears. They clearly show that their compositions are based on the classical style. Besides that you need to be a fan of the vocalist who sings in a falsetto style. The overall judgement of the album is that it is very common. There are nice guitar solos, nice and heavy with lots of melodies. On the contrary we have the bass it sounds sometimes that the bass player had to watch his hands while playing.
Burning Black is not a bad album, but has nothing new…which is a bit disappointing. Although fans of heavy power metal should give it a go.
