Venue: Tivoli Oudegracht, Utrecht (The Netherlands)

Bonjour, bonjour Babylon Circus est ici. The French band brings quite some musicians and makes the stage of Tivoli, Utrecht (The Netherlands) look small.
With their music, a blend between folk, rock, ska, reggae and more, they cheer up the audience, but don’t read over the term Circus in their name as the band is also extremely entertaining. The French started in 1995 and their latest release “Belle étoile” saw light in 2009. The band started off quite bombastic and bringing up people to dance with them in the start of their show already set the tone for what all to expect.. It all came down as a giant happiness cloud. Trumpets, trombone, clarinet, accordion and mr. David, which is quite a charismatic character, on vocals with Manuel as second lead singer next to him. They often take time to speak with the audience and tell them to dance, which the audience pretty much did from the start to the end anyway. The band sings in French but occasionally also in English, always being charming. Exactly how the people dream away about a romantic night in Paris, that dream comes alive with Babylon Circus. All of them seem so into it and make a sort of theater show out of it. Musicians battle with each other for the spotlight attention, in a funny way. Towards the end the base of the music sounds all similar and for the darkest people under us, maybe less attractive, but in general the band made sure there was enough variation in what they performed. |
The evening was filled with a good atmosphere, good vibes and plenty of energy. Babylon Circus is an experience you should not miss out on if you have a chance to see them. It’s an entertainment.
