Cold War Kids – Behave Yourself

Releasedate: 19-01-2010; Label: Downtown
By: Nina Mende

Cold War Kids is an American indie rock band formed in 2004. The current line-up is Matt Aveiro (drums), Matt Maust (bass), Jonnie Bo Russell (guitar) and Nathan Willett (vocals/piano).The four friends built their reputation by performing live and the release of three EPs (Mulberry Street Up in Rags and With our Wallets Full) cemented their fan-base as did their increasing profile amongst the blogging community.

“Behave Yourself”, the new EP by Cold War Kids, contains five songs. Basically a “music snack for in between” to make you forget your everyday life. The music sounds like the music played on the streets in Brooklyn for example. The kind of music where you usually have people walking down a street in the music videos or the music being when the kids are sitting on the staircase up to the door outside in movies. A very indie sound with an edgy rhythm, yet very catchy. On some of the songs you can hear piano playing in the background. Cold War Kids put a lot more into the background of their songs though. Interesting five songs, definitely different from the mainstream and a great snack for in between. Let’s hope they soon expand to a full meal.
