By: Nina Mende Somehow every new Hardcore Superstar album is an album I urgently wait for as
soon as they start working on it and am quite proud and excited once I hold
it in my hands. The newest of them “Dreamin’ in a casket” is still
something special though, because it has lots of red roses on the cover underneath
the typical silver Hardcore Superstar star and the roses’ thorns in the
inside and on the back of it. But let me tell you something about Hardcore Superstar from Gothenburg/Sweden
first:
Singer Jocke Berg, guitarist Silver Silver, bassist Martin Sandvik and former
drummer Mika Vaino formed Hardcore Superstar in 1997. They released “It’s
only Rock’n’Roll”. In 2000 they released their more official first album
“Bad Sneakers and a Piña Colada”, then with new drummer Magnus
“Adde” Andreasson. Their glossy glam rock sound and image is derived
from the Hollywood hair bands of the 80s. They have released 5 official albums.
So, now you might have gotten an idea of what kind of band Hardcore Superstar
is and I can continue telling you about their latest album.
Hardcore Superstar have developed their own typical sound, which is somewhere
between Swedish sleaze rock, glam rock and pure rock’n’roll, and that
is not only because of the typical sound of Jocke’s voice (singer) or Silver’s
guitar riffs. And this very style is what you can hear on this album as well.
The album starts out with “Needs No Company”, a song that starts with
an intro but goes straight back to the typical sound. The song “Sophisticated
Ladies” somehow sticks out to me, this song has something, maybe because
of the lyrics, but go ahead and check it out yourselves.
This album is a quite serious, deep and thoughtful album in my opinion, but
in the end everybody has to decide for themselves what this album means to them,
what to think about the lyrics and how to interpret them.
