12-11-2009 Syren

Venue: Bibelot, Dordrecht (The Netherlands)
By: Elvira Visser

On a Thursday evening the female band Syren came to Dordrecht to rock. The band exists of three girls and bring powerful songs with meaning. The band was founded as a collaboration between singer/guitarist Erin Bennett, bassist Amanda Smith-Skinner (former Rockbitch and MT-TV) and drummer Jo Heeley. The trio met each other around 2006 and started to play many performances.

Sadly there were not as many people as should have been here. They have played at the know Blues festival in town and got great reviews. Most of the people in the crowd lift up their hands when they asked who have seen them before. Even though there are not many people they bring their music with great enthusiasm. What can be liked about the music is that is very pure, you hear what you see. With that I mean no background symphonies no tapes, nothing. Just a guitar, bass and drums accompanied by vocals and it works. Bass player Amanda amazed people how she plays her instrument. It almost seems like while playing she is trying to dance the tango with it. The bass line is very present in the music. All the members breath confidence while on stage, which gives their music power. The band ended with the very catchy track “Dehumanized” which comes from their debut album that dates already from 2008. Time for a new album and more live shows.
