Lifelover is a Swedish Depressive Metal band formed in 2005. They give themselves strange names like ( ), Non, B, H, or Fix. Aside it, Dekadens is their fifth release.
Defining Lifelover as “Depressive Metal” is a bit restrictive. The sound of the band is rather a blend of Black Metal and Rock, but I’d say the atmosphere of the songs is enraged more than anything. The vocals are the odd characteristic of the band: it’s like scream mixed with sort of “despairing” speaking parts, but the sure thing is they surely fit with the dark sound of the album. One thing which disappointed me is that the songs are pretty much the same thing, frantic rhythms without an actual melody.
Even after a lot of listening of Dekadens I don’t remember one melody of it, but just a lot of sounds, noises and screams that come out of it. The last two songs are a bit more melodic compared to the rest and maybe the album had to go more in that direction, maybe the sound of it all could have been different if only it was more balanced with melodies.
