The Swedish formation Griftegård makes doom metal music and recently released their album “Solemn Sacred Severe”.
With a biography that could easily have been published as a book, there is plenty to find out about this band. About what the name means, the role that religion plays in the music and that they formed early in 2005. The band had some small releases before but this is the first full length. The band turns around in a corner of the doom genre where there is currently some space free. It stands out in the use of guitars in combination with the vocals that are not too deep, but yet striking you in doom. Personally I prefer vocals in doom to be a bit more deeper or raspier, but Griftegård certainly sets something for me to consider. The songs are full of power and that attracts me as well. “I Refuse These Ashes” is my favorite on this release for its dark vibes.
Griftegård made an interesting release, I doubt that they will be massive, but there should be some more exclusive music for the elite doom listeners as well and Griftegård fits there perfectly.
