[:SITD:] – Rot

Releasedate: 30-10-2009; Label: Indigo
By: Nina Mende

[:SITD:] is a German electro-industrial band founded in 1996 by Carsen Jacek and Thorsten Lau as Shadows in the Dark. In the following three years they self produced and released their first two albums, mourning country (1996) and Atomic (1999). In 1999, Lau left the band to be replaced by Thomas Lesczenski. In 2001, Andrè Sorge joined the band and they toured with VNV Nation and XPQ-21 on the Futureperfect tour. Sorge left the band by the end of the year. Since then they have released several albums and remixed some songs. Their latest album is called “Rot”.

The album is fast and thriving. The music and melodies definitely make you move along, you won’t even realize it. The lyrics are in German and English. For electro music there is actually a lot of lyrics, not only a couple phrases that keep on repeating over and over again. All the lyrics are all in the booklet so you can read them. The album is held in red fitting to the name. The song “Rot v 1.0.” somehow reminds me of Paul Van Dyk with its very melodic music. “Stigmata Of Jesus” is darker and more gloomy. The song “Pride” is an instrumental. All in all the new [:SITD:] album is a very catchy and melodic album. Great electro music with more than just beats and samplers mixed together. This album seems to have a soul. A great new album.
